Well hello there!
I’m Ruth, a 31 year old dabbler, mother, artist, lover of life in the slow lane, a gourmande (as my french relatives call me) and procrastinator. I can lose hours in my atelier, dreaming up pretty things, and one of these days…very very soon I hope … I will get enough time to finally open my etsy shop, Rubanesque, which has been a work in progress since Spring.
I’m married to Raphael, a very funny and romantic (he was born on Valentines day) french man and I’m a proud maman to an energetic, nearly two-year-old, Louis, whose escapades led me to start this blog and name it ‘Le Petit Coquin’ or ‘The Little Rascal’ in french.
We just moved to live in Provence…best decision ever, you can read more here….and I’m hoping to share our adventures in France; to regal you with tales of truffle hunting, food-induced comas, heavily laden fig trees, and errant village dogs. And of course talking about life in France wouldn’t be the same without discussing the wonderful idiosyncracies of French bureaucracy, or indeed how to best cut cheese when the cheese plate is passed to you…..all this to an attempt to hopefully intoxicate you with the potent and contagious ‘joie de vivre’ that living in Provence brings!
I hope you enjoy!

coucou ruth,

Hello Ruth and family !!!!!!!!!!!!!
How is life in Lacoste ???
what are you up to ? what are your days made of ?
did you get any snow ?
Arrrrgggh … should have read your ‘ABOUT’ page before I left the comment on The Dark Hedges … as I see now you ARE from Ireland! Why you’ve probably already been there! I lived in Ireland for almost two years (Ballydehob, Co. Cork), a while back. I’ll be returning in the near future … barring all unforeseen happenstance … to pick up the heart I lost along the way … somewhere near a forgotten crossroads in the wilds of Connemara. Sigh!
Hi Ruth,
I have been looking at your blog for some time now, I’ve never been to Provence but have been to Dordogne several times and love it. Provence seems to be similar. I love looking at your photos, you have some wonderful ones! Just thought I’d introduce myself, keep up the good work!
Paige
Hi Paige,
Thanks for checking in with my blog, I wish I could be as committed as you are on your blog but I’m trying harder to blog more regularly. Thanks for your support!!
Ruth
So nice to “meet” ex-pats in similar predicaments via their blogs! Nice job.
Hi Dominique, Your tagline is perfect and “…and so I became me. Finally”, so true!! Will enjoy reading about your escapades!

Hey dear motherhood. Your blog is just incredible & so funny. So how,s everything¿ We,re going to live to Washington DC next month. I really hope you and your family going to visit us soon.
Huggs & kisses
Hi Ruth,
I’m so excited to find your blog! I taped in “living in lacoste” and there you were. My husband and I are seriously thinking of moving to Provence and Lacoste in particular. Although I have already been in france for 16 years I love to keep an “english” vibe around me if possible. I’m happy mum to two wonderful little girls Mona 6 and Mila 1. My husband is french-dutch and I was born in england and grew up in Canada. We hope to come to the area in April and start house hunting… all depending whether a job prospect my husband has works out or not, fingers crossed. Anyway, all the best and good luck with your baby girl on the way. Just so happy to find there are young parents in the area!
Best Wishes,
Emma
Hi Emma,
Lovely to recieve your message and happy my ramblings haven’t put you off coming to Lacoste! I can’t recommend this area more for quality of life and both Lacoste and Bonnieux are quite international but still remain very French which for us is ideal! please do let me know if you are in the area in April (it should be heating up by then!) as we should meet for a coffee/drink! Best of luck with the moving plans! Take care Ruth
Dear Ruth,
Have just been sitting here devouring your blog. I love it! My husband is very happy as I have been nervous about the move and are now feeling very reassured.
I love your jewelry and well done for putting together a shop on etsy.
I would really love to meet up in April and will keep you posted.
Louis looks like a lovely little man.
Starting to feel excited…
Emma
Dear Ruth, I have been following your blog since you moved to Lacoste. It is a treasure, a place I go to for beauty and a long refreshing drink for the soul. Thank you so much for this work. I would be honored to send you a music mix inspired by your blog for that is one of my creative endeavors. If you would be willing to send me your post box. Claire
